MOTHERHOOD: An Evening of Stories



On April 26th, 2009, L.A. actress-moms and friends performed original monologues and celebrated stories about the experience of motherhood at a one night only benefit for Maternal Fetal Care International (MFCI) at Café des Artistes in Hollywood, California.

The evening was hosted by Megan and Craig Ferguson (The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson) and Dr. Lisa Masterson (The Doctors). Actresses who performed included Angela Bassett (Notorious, Akeelah and the Bee), Maria Bello (A History of Violence, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emporer), Lynn Ferguson (Chicken Run), Peri Gilpin (Frasier), Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Without a Trace, City of Ember), Amy Brennneman (Private Practice, Judging Amy), Roma Maffia (Nip/Tuck), Kathy Baker (Medium, Last Chance Harvey), Lisa Gay Hamilton (Men Of A Certain Age, The Soloist) and Meri Danquah (Author: Shaking the Tree).

Guests enjoyed wine and hors d’oeuvres, followed by a buffet supper and the star studded readings.

Red Tie Affair Honors TV’s THE DOCTORS

The American Red Cross of Santa Monica’s annual “Red Tie Affair” fundraiser held at the Fairmont-Miramar Hotel, in Santa Monica, Saturday, March 28, 2009 saluted the medical profession and emergency medicine.

Award winning KTTV Fox 11 News anchor, Christine Devine was Master of Ceremonies for the gala where Red Tie honorees included the cast and crew of the top-rated, CBS network, daytime television show, “The Doctors.” Jay McGraw, the show’s executive producer, accepted the American Red Cross Crystal Cross Award for the show’s contribution to the everyday understanding of medicine and health issues. Co-hosts Dr. Travis Stork, Dr. Lisa Masterson, Dr. Andrew Ordon, and Dr. James Sears were also honored.

Annual Lullaby Ball Benefits MFCI

The Beverly Hills Hotel ballroom glittered Tuesday evening, May 8th, 2007, as black tie attired celebrities and guests celebrated MFCI’s second annual Lullaby Ball, which raises money to help the fight against maternal and infant mortality. Mistress of ceremonies, actress Alfre Woodard of ABC’s “Desperate Housewives,” was on board to honor Oscar-nominee, Marianne Jean-Baptiste of CBS’ “Without A Trace,” with the MFCI Humanitarian Award, while Cookie Johnson was the evening’s recipient of the Lullaby Ball Award.

MFCI’s founder, Dr. Lisa Masterson, was also joined by her co-hosts on “The Doctors,” Dr. Travis Stork, Dr. Jim Sears, and Dr. Andrew Ordon. Following a live auction, the event ended with donors dancing the night away.

Dr. Masterson Honored at Red Tie Ball

A crowd of 350 festively attired supporters celebrated the local organization’s 90th anniversary under the sparkling chandeliers of the Fairmont Miramar, where they mingled with the stars and vied with one another in silent and live auctions that raised an estimated $50,000 for the charity.

Lullaby Ball Raises Funds for MFCI

The first annual Lullaby Ball held at the Beverly Hills Hotel on March 9th, 2006, was a fundraising affair to remember as black tie donors gathered to celebrate and support Maternal Fetal Care International founded by Stephen and Dr. Lisa Masterson to support safe motherhood around the world.

MFCI Board Member, Elaine Baylor, was presented with the MFCI Humanitarian Award. The guest list included Oscar nominee Marianne Jean-Baptiste and her co-star, Poppy Montgomery, from CBS’ “Without A Trace,” Alfre Woodard from ABC’s “Desperate Housewives,” Cookie Johnson and Tava Smiley. The event included a fabulous auction, music, and dancing.
